First Communion Requirements
“The Eucharist is 'the source and summit of the Christian life.' 'The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself . . .’ (CCC 1322-1325).”
Traditionally children celebrate the sacrament of First Communion in the 2nd grade. Preparation is a two- year process. Typically children attend Religious Education in 1st grade and celebrate in 2nd grade. Children who are 2nd grade through 12th grade with no prior faith formation prepare to celebrate the sacrament through our RCIA Adapted for Children Program. RCIA Adapted for Children is a two-year process and includes parent participation. This program catechizes the entire family.
Adults (18 years & older) who have not celebrated the sacrament of First Communion, but have already celebrated their Sacrament of Baptism are prepared to celebrate their First Communion through our Adult Enrichment Classes. Those who not have celebrated their Baptism prepare for First Communion through our RCIA for Adult classes. For more information about this program, please call the parish office at 512-312-2520.
